Downturn spells end for job hoppers

Of the 1,500 workers recruitment site hirescores.com questioned, more than 80% of workers said compared to the same point last year, they are now more likely to stay in a job they would previously have left, while just 13% said they still change temporary office jobs regularly.

Nearly three quarters of temps in the financial services sector said they had stopped job hopping, compared to almost seven in 10 temps in the legal accountancy sector and 60% of those in the leisure and retail sector.

Lisette Howlett, managing director of HireScores.com, said the economic downturn means job hunters are ‘struggling’.

“Our research shows that temporary employees are becoming reformed job-hoppers and ditching the once common trend of switching jobs whenever they got fed up with a company because there was a buoyant economy and jobs in plentiful supply,” she said.

“In recent months the recruitment sector has been thriving with more and more people coming to agencies looking for work, but it now looks as though demand is far outweighing the number of jobs available.”
